The architectural restoration of Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome offered the opportunity for a strategic and functional restructuring of the internal spaces, to be used for a cultural entertainment more attentive to visitors’ demands. Four-metre-high plasterboard false walls and mobile suspended ceiling modules to support the lighting equipment neutralise the classical-style decorative emphasis of Piacentini’s architecture. Concealed behind these elements are the main technological innovations, applied to the air-conditioning systems, security systems and the providing of exhibition flexibility. The information and commercial signage is clearly distinguished from that of the exhibitions.
